CVI Labeling Platform · last updated 4 October 2026
The CVI Labeling Platform is run by the Compute Visibility Institute. It has two parts: a web map viewer at app.labeling-platform.ops.computegov.com and a QGIS plugin used to edit map labels. Only people we have invited can use either. This page explains what personal information the platform handles and why.
When you sign in
You sign in with your Google account. Google tells us your email address, and the QGIS plugin also receives the basic profile (name and picture) that Google includes when you sign in. We use your email address to decide what you may access and to record who made each change. When an administrator grants you access, the access list also stores your email address, your role, and optionally your name and a short note on why access was granted.
Changes you make
Every label change is stored with the email address of the person who made it and when. This history is kept permanently by design, so it stays accurate after your access ends.
Server logs
Our servers record technical details of each request, such as the time, the address requested, your IP address, your browser and, when you are signed in, your email address. We use these logs for security and troubleshooting, and keep them for a limited period.
Cookies and browser storage
The web viewer uses a sign-in cookie set by Google's Identity-Aware Proxy, and remembers your choice of background map in your browser. There are no advertising or analytics cookies.
Who else receives information
- Google hosts the platform on Google Cloud in Belgium (europe-west1) and provides sign-in.
- The web viewer loads some background map tiles directly from Terrascope (VITO, Belgium) and NASA GIBS. Like any website, they receive your IP address with each request.
We do not sell personal information or use it for advertising. We disclose it only when required by law. Our use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy.
How long we keep it
The access list and edit history are kept for the life of the project. Database backups are kept for 10 days (daily), 45 days (weekly), and until an administrator deletes them (monthly).
Your choices
You can ask us to remove your access, tell you what we hold about you, or correct or delete it. Removing your name from the edit history would make that history inaccurate, so if you ask, we will tell you what we can do. Write to contact@computegov.com.
Changes to this page
If we change how the platform handles personal information, we will update this page and the date at the top.
